Purlins to insert
I wanted to know how to do it without a known angle. Open a section on rafter(s) view. Draw a construction line at right angles to top of rafter. Set new X,Y,Z with X along top of rafter. Bring up a plan view at the nearest height. On the correct side of building insert above purlin, play about with the purlin properties (left, middle, right, above, below etc.) and one can get it correct. I don’t know if this is the easiest way but it worked fine for me.
The following pdf makers are listed under Tekla on my computer PDF A4, deskPDF, deskPDF Creator, deskPDFConvertor but the only on that appears to work is PDF-XCHANGE 4.0

Tekla Extensions from Extranet ‘compare assemblies’
Unzip then- Copy the file in your macros folder C:\ProgramData\Tekla Structures\<VERSION>\environments\common\macros\modeling
– The tool is available at the Tools > Macros…click global dialog only compares parts in assembly giving a list table.
tools , compare> parts or assemblies. A very good and useful tool. It came up with ‘material differs’ on the job I tried it on, one assembly had S355JR and the other was S355-JR
Segments in curved / polybeam
I noticed only 59 as maximum acceptable value for number of segments of a curved beam. Is it the limit or we can increase? For built-up curved beams this is creating accuracy problems. We cannot depend, for example, 10 CM long segments of beams. The result is not a curved beams at all. This needs to be increased. I am not worried about performance or speed. How to increase this? Try using the Poly beams.
I created some parametric profiles with two different sections.
Now I want to export to other models.
How to do this?
Export parametric profiles (.uel) file from component catalogue by right click ((give path and name)),,,then open new model and import that parametric profiles (.uel) file into component catalogue.
How to make one or more drawings for an existing assembly.
Tekla help, create drawings, create multiple drawing sheets using drawing properties. drawings & reports, drawing settings, assembly drawings, assembly drawing drawing properties. Adjust the drawing properties and change the name to say 3D. add sheet no. 1 this means that an existing B7 will also have a B7.1 click apply. Leave the drawing properties box open and create another drawing of part.
Creating exaggerated Dimensions
You can exaggerate narrow dimensions to make them easier to read. When you enable the exaggeration of the dimensions, a dimension that is narrower than the defined limit is enlarged. If there are many exaggerated dimensions, Tekla Structures arranges them automatically. Setting exaggeration consists of selecting the exaggeration limit and scale, enabling the exaggeration and setting the direction, origin, width, position and height for the exaggerated dimensions.
- go to Tools>Options>Options>Drawing dimensions.
- Enter the exaggeration limit in the Exaggeration limit box.
- Select paper or model as exaggeration scaling method.
If you select paper, the exaggeration limit is multiplied by the view scale. For example, If the scale is 1:10 mm, then all the dimensions smaller than 100 mm are exaggerated. If you select model, and the scale is 1:10 mm, all the dimensions less than 10 mm are exaggerated regardless of the drawing scale.
- Click OK.
- Go to the advanced tab of the dimension dialog box.
- Enable the exaggeration by setting exaggeration to specified.
- Set the values for direction, origin, width, position and height.
- Click OK.
Exaggeration works only if the dimension lines are long. Set short extension line to “NO” on the general tab of the dimension properties dialog box.
Why the picture for my parametric profile in others catalogue doesn’t show?
Those images are read from the folder defined with the system variable DAK_BMPPATH.
If you are using a FIRM folder to keep your customized files, you can direct Tekla to look there through your user.ini file or a customized Role.ini file.
Also, the files must be bitmap(*.BMP) types.If you aren’t using a FIRM folder, the BMP file needs to go into the folder shown in teklastructures.ini (for example; DAK_BMPPATH=%XS_DIR%\nt\bitmaps\ )
Filter for making material lists
Really wish there was a Tekla book for Dummies (since there are no printable full manuals, just what u print offline) It seems like every question and answer subject winds up XS_THIS AND XS_THAT in the advanced options, ini file and so on..my thing is NEW/NEWER users like myself that are NOT knowledgeable on these options – Where is the best place to view where and what these options are and what they do, and how these statements are structured so they work…
To create an object group:
1.Click View > Representation > Object Representation… to open the Object Representation dialog box.
2.Click Object group… to open the Object Group – Representation dialog box.
3.Modify the object group settings.
a.Click Add row.
b.Select options from the Category, Property, and Condition lists.
c.In the Value list, enter a value or select one from the model.
d.Add more rows, and use the And/Or options or parentheses to create more complex rules.
4.Select the check boxes next to all object group rules that you want to enable.
The check boxes define which rules are enabled and effective.
5.Enter a unique name in the box next to the Save as button.
6.Click Save as to save the object group.

I think it was located in Tools/options/Advanced options. Then someware under the sub headings (eg Templates and Symbols or Drawing Properties or ???)
Then a fomula string (eg XS_?????_????_??? then under value type true)
Sorry with V14 i think going to the advanced options was the only way to fix things up.
With later versions it is simpler.
